First Return to Judah, Study 2, Psalm 107,

First Return to Judah, Study 2, Psalm 107,

Firslty lets look at the book of Jeremiah and the prophecies foretold concerning Israel not
forgetting that we are grafted into the Vine and that Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches

Firstly lets dig into the book of Jeremiah to see what was foretold as we begin the
"First return of Judah"

Lets go through a brief journey of "the book of Jeremiah" foretelling and telling "Gods heart"

Stay with me on this journey as we sojourn through "Gods Heart"

Jeremiah chapters 1-4 after the introduction

Jeremiah 29:4-11

4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who were carried away captive, whom
I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 Build houses and dwell in them;
plant gardens and eat their fruit. 6 Take wives and beget sons
and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they
may bear sons and daughters -- that you may be increased there, and not diminished.

7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray
to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace. 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the
God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, nor
listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.

9 For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them, says the LORD.
10 For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and
perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.

Again Jeremiah the prophet foretells of the captivity in babylon years before and God already
knows what will happen, knowing all things

Once more the sojourners (hebrew slaves in Egypt) were in captivity, that is those who were taken as captives from
Egypt and led through the wilderness to the "Promised Land" and then having rebelled
and God handing them over to their ways being taken captive once more by another
heathen nation the babylonians

Why ? because they had been unfaithful and so God handed them over to their adulterous ways

Jeremiah 3:1 “If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and marries another man,
should he return to her again? Would not the land be completely defiled?
But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers— would you now return to me?”
declares the LORD.

Now this is the mercy of our God and I must not forget that however hard it is I am to
follow the Rabbi ! He is my role model and in this is the "Cost" of following Jesus where I
lay down my life to follow Him

THE COST OF FREE WILL - Psalm 106,Study 11

I am to take up my Cross and follow Him....what heart wrenching stuff and life tearing
communion !

God wanted us back ! Jeremiah 4:1“If you will return, O Israel, return to me,”

God wants me to return

Would I do that ? if my partner went away and was unfaithful ? could I do that ?

Am I really to follow His example ?

Now God says to the one who has been unfaithful and slept with another

Jeremiah 3:11 The LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel is more righteous than unfaithful Judah. 12 Go,
proclaim this message toward the north: “‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the LORD,
‘I will frown on you no longer, for I am faithful,’ declares the LORD, ‘I will not be angry forever.

This is the maturing of my faith rather not just believing, not simply having the faith to believe
that God exists (as most humans do)

Not just having a "relationship" with God but moving on from that and going deeper to
obedience and sacrifice

Even more so not blowing a trumpet outside the synagogue for all to see what we have done
and the sacrifice we have made , being done towards others

Jeremiah 3:24 From our youth shameful gods have consumed the fruits of our fathers’ labor—
their flocks and herds, their sons and daughters.

The fruits of the Fathers being consumed and the generations after

Gill's Exposition

such judgments came upon them as consumed all they got by hard labour; or rather it may
regard their shameful sin of rejecting the Messiah, and crucifying him; which they will be
ashamed of at the time of their conversion, when they shall look on him whom they have
pierced, and on account of which they suffer the many calamities they now do:

Jeremiah 4:1“If you will return, O Israel, return to me,”

This is the tender mercy of our God

Luke 1:78 because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from

Once I return to Him....that is to "Repent"

2 Chronicles 7:14

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my
face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
and will heal their land.

I put down to follow Him, I lay down to follow Him, I cut it out...

If something is causing me to sin I lay it down, I crucify it, I spit it out of my life rather
tha have my life psat out

Mark 9:47

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of
God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

Rather than

Revelation 3:16

So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

I cut it out and circumcise my heart to Him alone

Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and
people of Jerusalem,

Woo what a thing to do sacrifice something to gain more !

What a great thing our God has done, to go back to the adulterous generation

Mark 8:38

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son
of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

What a great thing our God has done, to go back to the adulterous generation to call back His
lover, His partner, His wife ! and to say

Jeremiah 4:1“If you will return, O Israel, return to me,”

O how He is a jealous God when He see's His loved one dressing herself up in fine adorn

Exodus 20:5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD
your God, am a jealous God,

God only seeks to want the best for His children yet they see the bright lights and dress up
in fine clothing for the gods who will only take their lifes and ruin them

Jeremiah 4:30 What are you doing, O devastated one? Why dress yourself in scarlet
and put on jewels of gold? Why shade your eyes with paint? You adorn yourself in vain.
Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.

Wonder at Our God who burns within with Holy anguish..

This invisible God , yes our invisible God , being visible to His Own and yet Invisible to the

This song came when I began to realised how close God actually was.I had a picture one day
of a desert scene and someone looking down from a mountain at tents ( tablenacles ) sprayed
accross the desert landscape and as I looked I saw tent upon tent and the canvas or material
was flapping in the wind as the Spirit moved through the camp and so this song came

"Wonder, O look wonder at the sight,
The God of glory , Tabernacling with his chosen ones

Awesome,O how awesome is the sight,Shekinah Glory fills the camp Of his people

O our great and mighty God O your glory fills the Earth Glorious God, We lift your name on high.

And yes we will praise you We will glorify, yahweh God, The mighty El Shaddai

For you are God , Conqueror, O look see the Son of God, Destroying powers ,Sin and Death

Saviour, O yes saviour of the World, See the Lamb of God, Ascending to the Fathers side

Because of your love for us, You gave your all for us, We want to know that love that calls to
all Mankind.

Yes we want to know you more And we want to love you more, To love you with our heart,
And soul and mind, For you are God.

Pentecost, Imagine the tongues of fire, Tongues of every nation Speaking bold and clear

Healing, O look see the sons of God , The blind can see, The lame are leaping, Praising God,

You've opened our eyes to see, Jesus among us , With a new song in our hearts
We will sing your praise,

O come see Emanuel, God is with us, In our hearts and lifes, Our Saviour Christ is born again
Come see our God , Come see our God, Look see our God."

This God of ours and yet not ours but we are His who burns with Holy Fire and Anger

This personage of God making His own in His image, How jealous is our God

Jeremiah 4:19 Oh, my anguish, my anguish , I writhe in pain. Oh, the agony of my heart!
My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent.

Gods heart pounding within Him as He see's His people and knows that the time has come
when He must turn away from His beloved and give her over to another

What emptiness of creation when all is formed for those He loves and loved

Th earth and all that is in it created for His lover yet she turns away and seeks another

Jeremiah 4:23 I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty; and at the heavens,
and their light was gone.

How the earth grew dark at the moment in eternal reflection as God meditated on His
child and her rebellion
O lord God create in this land a heart that seeks You

Whatever the cost,

That the seed would germinate in the soil and a new life would grow from the barren land

Lord , let us hear your pounding heart and know that You Are God

Even though this land has turned away from You and You have handed it over to "other gods"
let this land return to You Lord

So that those who are the remnant as a nation within a nation might be made Whole

Forgive me Lord and forgive us

In Jesus name amen
