THE COST OF FREE WILL - Psalm 106,Study 11

THE COST OF FREE WILL - Psalm 106,Study 11

And so we have been looking at the preparation, the unseen workings of God as He places people in the right places at the right times and brings all these things together in His time to allow His special people to be delivered from their bondage and oppression

We've been looking at just a tiny slice of the intervening and workings of God in the studies on Psalm 105 which is a reflective account of Gods people, the preparations, the peoples and the deliverance of the hebrew people

How God rasies up the right people and brings testings and how He brings down others, how the "Word of the sower" causes the rising and falling of many

Luke2:34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

We apply this to our lifes now as Christians and see that we too have come out of oppression and bondage and we are or can be delivered.

We can walk out of the world and into a new journey of Faith with God

Now We begin Psalm 106, which again is a reflection of Israel's deliverance from bondage and deliverance from slavery in Egypt

Again I apply this to my life and we can apply this to our lifes

And so we continue with the same theme in Psalm 106 but we go on from this to reflect and learn from the journey of "The Heart" as we now leave Egypt and venture on our "Alien" Journey as thosem set apart and chosen

Psalm 106 reflects on the hearts of the people , on rebellion, sin, free will and amongst other things "spiritual adultery"

Strange to believe or comprehend that once delivered we can and I can rebel against the very God who saved us !

And so we carry on once more , by looking at a small slice of a very big picture as we look into Psalm 106

Very often and more often than not I can find myself thinking on the promises of God , on the
scriptures that relate to me in a positive way

For example "God loves me" and "He will never forsake me" and so on

And this is good as I am too think about the good things of God and His love

But in this I can miss or ignore parts of the "Word" that I do not like

I can (for example) miss the Old testament... as this tends to (in my mind) show God as a more
angry God

I can miss out the scriptures and lessons in Gods Word that do not always reflect a positive note

I can avoid scriptures and lessons that I may not want to hear (does that make sense?)

In this I can find myself in the "New Testament" and even then only reflecting on the "good stuff"

This gives me an imbalance that is neither good for me nor anyone else

We ended the last study thinking about "Gods Word being about when God moves and Works"

Being that scripture is God inspired and when God works in peoples hearts

But not all of scripture is about "The Good"

Not all that we enjoy is always "good for us"

During this study we are looking at ....not so much the "Who we are in Christ"

But in the lessons learnt from the "past"

To feed on the past is not always a good thing when I feed myself on the negative

"ooo I never was any good at that" and "I,ll never forgive them for that"

But to feed and learn from my own past can teach me how to "go about things in the future"

And also as I feed on the Word of God (which is alive now in the present)

I can learn from past lessons and the Holy Spirit can teach me from past lessons

So although it may seem to be negative that we feed on such things as "sin - rebellion
- testing and trials - adultery and idolatry " we all the same must not neglect these things

And we might say" yes but we focus on the positive aspects and we feed on who we are in Christ and
then as we do that the other things will kind of not be or become"

We might say "We are made Righteous by the blood of the Lamb and we live by Grace no
need to learn from these things is there ?"

We might say "Well I live by grace and the Old Testament does'nt apply to me"

I must remember that scripture is also there for teaching, rebuking , correcting and training

Its not just about the mighty deeds and miracles that God does

At times it reflects the heart of man

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness,

Note : this is a scripture from the "New Testament"

Comes from the "Mouth" Of God

It comes in useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training.................

While we are looking briefly through certain aspects of the rebellion of "mankinds - My - Our -
Christians" hearts we must keep in mind that none of us including myself know all the answers

"Except God"

I must remember that Gods primary aim is to save and to restore

And this is the focus relating to all the "Free Will" studies, relating to Psalm 106

lets begin

"The best things in Life are free"

Well thats one of the biggest misconceptions of our time and one of the biggest lies

We know that all these things that seem to be free are anything but free

In fact they come at the greatest cost

Anyone knows that the best things in life are one of the costliest things on the planet

Not just in financial terms but in terms of "time - resources - heart - commitment and shall we
go on..."

Even money comes at a price and the price of having money is the "responsibility and stewardship
that it brings"

Even the air that we breath comes at a price

We know that we are bought with a Price as Christian believers and that our salvation is free

But as we go on we realise that there is a cost involved, even our lifes

Luke 14:28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

I have the free will to decide

In that is the greatest price I will ever pay

My free will decides

As they say on a certain TV programme

My own free will is the most costly thing, it can cost me my life to deny and turn away thus loosing my chance of salvation as a "Non believer"

My own free will can be the most costly thing being that I can except Jesus Christ into my life and be "Born Again" into a new life that will cost me my life

In this it is not "Free Will" but I must call it "Costly will"

Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross and follow me.

Being that I may well have lost my life to find it I come willigly to the Throne of Grace

Finding new life having laid my own down and letting God take the steering wheel

In this is the cost

Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross and follow me.

In this is the two way relationship in that I take up my Cross daily

The Father draws us yet we must be willing participants

John 6:44

"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise
him up at the last day.

Vincent's Word Studies

See John 6:44; John 12:32. Ἑλκύω occurs only once outside of John's writings
(Acts 16:19). Luther says on this passage: "The drawing is not like that of the
executioner, who draws the thief up the ladder to the gallows; but it is a gracious
allurement, such as that of the man whom everybody loves, and to whom everybody
willingly goes."

Note: willingly goes

People's New Testament

No man can come to me, except the Father... draw him. Their obstinacy and unbelief
(Joh 6:41,42) called out this. Two things are needful to come to Christ, the human
will to come and the divine drawing. See Joh 5:40 Mt 23:37 Re 22:17. God draws by
the gospel. It is the power of God unto salvation (Ro 1:16). If our will consents
, so that we yield to the drawing, we will come to Christ.

Note; If our will consents

Either way I Will come to the end of myself sooner or later

Whether I come to the end of myself as a non believer as in death and then to be no more (as in no life) therefore fulfilling my own belief and creating my own destiny

I can therefore say "I was right" the prophecy I gave upon my own life was correct and God is as I believed as now I am without Him

There are only two destinies: Heaven or Hell

Whether I believe this or not makes no difference, for simply believeing in something that does not exist, does not make it exist and neither does "NOT" believing in something make it go away

If something exists it is there because it IS,

Whether I believe it is or not makes no difference to the fact

Either way I will come to the end of myself sooner or later

As a Believer and Christian I will come to the end of myself sooner than expected

That is if I choose to walk in Gods Will (as I can walk as a Christian without coming to the end of myself)

Now in this I find my own will struggling as it comes into line with Gods will and at times wrestling

Romans 7:15 NKJV“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice, but what I hate, that I do.”

In this is not a "New years resolution" or a "self determined battle"

But I hand over to a higher power as I know that my own powers are limited as a Christian and it is the power of Christ in me

GO TO shenathayim yamim, Psalm 105- Study 10

And so it is the power of the blood of Jesus and the sacrifice laid of a life laid down

This is the struggle between my will and Gods will

For at times I walk in His Will and at other times I struggle to walk in His Will as His Will comes in the way of mine and I have to move aside

But in my walk of "Costly Will" or "Free Will at a cost"

I know that when I come to the end of this walk on earth that it is not the end

But that this life was merely a testing ground and training ground,

Its A Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting, Training - Ground , 2 Timothy 3:16

And when I am on the new earth with God as my light

And when He has, not just made me "New" but when He has made all the things around me "new"

Then I can look back and know why and how and what

And I can see that the old life on earth was merely Father God Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting and Training me for the life to come

For what I see now is merely a poor reflection of what is too come as it says in

1 Corinthians 13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror

And so to find my life I must loose it as in

Matthew 10:39

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

In this is the parable of the "Seed and The Sower"

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

He that findeth his life ... - The word "life" in this passage is used evidently in two senses. The meaning may be expressed thus: He that is anxious to save his "temporal" life, or his comfort and security here, shall lose "eternal" life, or shall fail of heaven. He that is willing to risk or lose his comfort and "life" here for my sake, shall find "life" everlasting, or shall be saved.

A seed must fall to the ground and die and in doing so new life is produced as in

John 12:24

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

And so I give up this temporal life for the gaining of eternal life that can begin Now

Note: We live now for eternal life and begin living in eternal life NOW, although this NOW is only a poor reflection of what will be for although I am saved I am also being saved and will be

Either way I WILL come to the end of myself sooner or later

Sooner if I will to be "Saved"

Later if I WILL 'Not to be'

I find that the things money can buy are only temporal things and have no lasting value

Whereas those things that SEEM to be "FREE" are the most costly things in my life (that has been handed over to Him or Not as the case may be)

This is the "COST OF FREE WILL"
