Psalm 92

This is a Psalm to be sung "On the Sabbath Day" to be used in the Temple services

And we begin by focusing on the Lord and in "GRATITUDE" we come to Him

And we are reminded of our short existence here on this earth

Words such as "simpleton" (NLT) and "Fool" are used for those who do not understand or
see what God is like

Psalm 92:10 You have anointed me with the finest Oil

Now we come to Psalm 92:12 and we see the Cedars of Lebanon, those cedars that can stand
so tall and that live so long , those Palm trees that reach up too 120 feet in height and 30 feet
in circumference

Those cedars that built many a home and temple..

Those trees that draw from the soil and reach so deep into the ground...

And the anomynous author of this Psalm relates the cedars of lebanon to those Godly men
(people) whom will flourish like Palm Trees (Psalm Trees) , who grow as strong as "Palm Trees"

Those who are transplanted to the Lords own Home ....

Who flourish in the Courts of our God

Here they produce (we can produce) fruit ....notice the larger trees, the older trees, produce
fruit....

While the younger Trees put their energy into growth

And so figurative, symbolic and imaginative we look at Psalm 92, with a picture of the Cedars
of Lebanon and relate it to Gods own people being transplanted into to the Lords own Home

.....................

Now we look at the Cross References

Psalm 92:3 = ................ .1 Samuel 10:5 1 Chronicles 13:8 Nehemiah 12:27

Youth Pastor: Says

I once was blind but now I see , the Lord anoints me with oil and I am transplanted in His house
and I boldly proclaim His name and become strong in God as an Oak,

This is a Psalm to be sung "On the Sabbath Day" to be used in the Temple services

1.

I wonder if the "Lord day" is just a sunday

Here they produce (we can produce) fruit ....notice the larger trees, the older trees, produce
fruit....

While the younger Trees put their energy into growth

2.

I wonder if the young trees can produce fruit ?

I also have "And the trees of the fields shall clap their hands" Isaiah 55:12

O.I.L: Says

Well lets start this study with prayer

Lord God in Jesus name speak to me and us, bring melody and song to our hearts Lord, you
who give a new song to us, let that song be heard and let the Palms of Lebanon sing for joy,
Lord God anoint us and fill our empty vessels with oil Like the Elisha's of the widow. Let our
jars keep on filling until they are brimming and overflowing so that they not only feed us but
those around us.

Lord let our roots grow deep into your word so that no matter how big the storm we will stand
strong as the palms of lebanon and be as fine as the Oaks of bashan

In Jesus name amen

Psalm 92

Lets begin by echoing Youth Pastors question and ask

"What is worship ? " and when do we worship" ?

.................................................................

Jacob: Says

Well last night I had this image/picture/word thing and it was like God spoke and I,ll share it anyway

You / I often hear people talk about worship in the group Church context and the morning
service worship and how it was and this echoes another post on here (what the preacher said)

About the "division" in the Church or how we divide Church and work or Church and the rest
of life..

So anyway we also have this "you must mean what you sing and it must be from the heart"

"You have to look at the words you sing and mean them"

People / I might read verses like " let your worship be spiritual and true" John 4:24

They miss out John 4:20-24

"Then we have the Christians don't smile enough, I see non believers happier than this "

Then we have the "whether we should clap or not"

So anyway I had this picture of Moses and where he was leading the poeple out of Egypt and to
the promised land and where he was worshipping God through his obedience Exodus 13:21-22

And I also had a picture of Abraham where he was sacrificing his son Isaac Genesis 22:1-12

And I was reminded of how Moses may not have always wanted to do what he did, after all he
was human ! and he must have had days when he really did not want to be doing what he did ?

So anyway he went through the motions, day by day doing what he was meant to do out of
obedience to God !!

And then we have Abraham , now Im sure he did'nt really want too sacrifice his one and only son
on a slab of rock !!

But he was obedient unto the end and he was worshipping God by doing what he was doing

Even though in the worlds eyes that might seem to the onlooker to be a murdering selfish
even maniac thing to put your son on a slab !!

So here we see that just with these two examples we have an obedience unto God that is worship,
this is "spiritual and true" worship

A worship that obeys God even though it may go against our natural everyday wants !

And we hear people say " Well some Christians just go through the motions"

Or "Well some Christians just look sooo miserable"

Or " Well he walks the walk and talks the talk"

Now Im sure they would have said the same about "Abraham" would'nt they ?

"Where are you going this fine and dandy morning ? Abraham.... you look a bit miserable "

Reply "To sacrifice my son" !!

You see so often we skip over the surface of things, we kinda misss the whole point, we look
merely at the surface and often times don't even have time to look deeper

Worship has nowt to do with sunday mornings lol or whether we mean the words !!

what we are doing is merey looking out the outward affect of what is going on deeper in
a persons life and instead of seeing that there is something deeper , we need to recognise it , not
simply from the outside affect , not just by saying " O man cheer up "

Not by skipping over the surface of things............

You don't help someone is trouble by saying

"Hey man your in trouble,"

IF your going to helpsomeone in trouble do the positive thing and think of ways you can help

Its no good looking at a smoker and saying "thats gonna kill you one day" cough

Well done , your one of the thousands who have had a nagative impact in that persons life

why not look deeper than the surface?

Why not be positive towards that person instead ?

Even befriending them while breathing in their smoke might just replace their longing for a
cigarette friend that is always there when they need it and is a great security, for a real friend
in life that is always there when they need it and is a great security,

So anyway Ive shared what I was given

Stop looking at the surface of things guys and look deeper .................................................................

O.I.L: Says

Does anyone else have some thoughts on this ?
.................................................................

The Deacon: Says

Well yes the worship we have on sunday or whenever we meet together in a building is too basically get our focus and our hearts ready and prepared for the message to be given, thats just coming to God with the right attitude of being ready to receive

In a way its a bit like the Cedars mentioned in Psalm 92, it helps us to put our roots down
deeper into Gods word but also at Church or wherever we might meet to have fellowship , its a
way of openly speaking out and declaring what we believe in public

So the mere fact that we do this is kind of an open declaration to others

But yes the worship Jacob mentioned is the result of the roots

People see the tree standing strong , but they don't see the roots and its a good thing too,,
imagine if people could see all the roots ? they might try to manipulate where the roots go ! or play God at trying to cut out some of the roots they don't like the look off and they may well be the roots that the Lord may use in the future, remember He is the moulder and shaper

"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."

Colossians 2:6-7

.................................................................

O.I.L: Says

OK in order to get things going let me pose a question

1.

Whats the difference between a good person who does not Follow God in Jesus and a Godly
person
who does ?

EG:

A.

Someone who lives for others with good intentions, they are obedient to their own beliefs and
sacrifice a great deal to aid and help others

B.

A Godly person who does'nt quite live up to others expectations but follows God and obeys God
in Jesus , who is obedient to God and what He says "As in relationship - here and now" and
sacrifices in order to do what God wants

Try to reply in keeping with "tree, roots, fruit"
.................................................................

The Deacon : Says

Q

Whats the difference between a good person who does not Follow God in Jesus and a Godly person
who does ?

A

Are'nt they the same ?

Q

If you could plant a tree, what tree would you plant ? and why ?

A

One that benefited me in my life time
.................................................................

O.I.L: Says

1.

If you could plant a tree, what tree would you plant ? and why ?
.................................................................

oatker: Says

i would p[ant the mustard tree because when it grows it gives birds rest of every feather
it is good because they all come and flock together
rather like this blessed site
.................................................................

Jacob: Says

Amen oatker let the tree be full of singing
.................................................................

A-Thiest: Says

what about a godly person who is bad ?

.................................................................

oatker: Says

you cant find a godly person who is bad. if they are godly they have the attributes of god and as we all know god is good all the time. perhaps you mean religious people who are bad. then of course you can, so we have religion and the opposite which is christ.all
that is in christ is so, so good and to be embraced and all that is in religion will unfortunately
suck you into hell. i am so, so sorry to say. religion is hard solid and you can see it. christ is
love and faith and bright hope and much harder to see and is a tresure .................................................................

Hischild: Says

Religion is man's reaching out to God

Christianity is God's reaching out to man

There is a difference and that difference makes all the difference
.................................................................

A-Thiest: Says

I understand giving over to a higher power but are all as they say they are . like why
do sum have bad fruit or a mixture of good and bad . just observation
.................................................................

O.I.L: Says

Thats a good question Athiest

Luke 6:43

A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. A tree is identified
by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is
in your heart. So why do you keep calling Me “Lord, Lord!” when you don’t do what I say?

John 15:1

I am the true grapevine, and My Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of Mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine,
and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me.

Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce
much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in Me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in Me and My words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are My true disciples. This
brings great glory to My Father.

Matthew 7:15

.................................................................

O.I.L: Says

Now look at Psalm 92 and ask the question "how do verses 6,7,9, and 11 relate to all of this ? "

6The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand,

7that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed.

8But you, O Lord, are exalted forever.

9For surely your enemies, O Lord, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered.

11My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.

Now look at Psalm 92 and ask the question "how do verses 6,7,9, and 11 relate to all of this ? "
