SALVATION - SINS BLOTTED OUT

Now lets look at Old Testament and New Testamnet scriptures both relating to blotting out of sins

Where do we read about this in the New Testament ?

OLD TESTAMENT

Isaiah 43:25 KJV I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not
remember thy sins.

Jeremiah 31:34 KJV And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD : for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

NEW TESTAMENT

Hebrews 8:12 KJV For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Heb 10:16-17 KJV This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Ephesians 2 (New International Version)

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace,

This is Jew and Gentile, the Gentile being grafted into the Vine

So again we see the two walls

Do you remember the song "The wise man built his house upon a Rock ? "

You might remember it from sunday school maybe....it goes
..........

The wise man built his house upon the rock, The wise man built his house upon the rock

The wise man built his house upon the rock, And the rain came tumbling down

And the rain came down And the floods came up, The rain came down And the floods came up

The rain came down And the floods came up, And the house on the Rock stood firm

The foolish man built his house upon the sand, The foolish man built his house upon the sand

The foolish man built his house upon the sand And the rain came tumbling down

And the rains came down And the floods came up, The rains came down And the floods came up

The rains came down And the floods came up And the House on the sand went "SPLAT"
.....................

That may be a childrens song but it has a very deep meaning upon the lifes of people

The Walls Of Jericho

THE WALLS OF JERICHO

We read about Rahab in Joshua 2 and walls of Jericho in Joshua 6

And when it states "Walls of Jericho" that is exactly what it was

We may well know the Story of Jericho where Gods people marched around the City walls

Now lets take a brief look at the City Of Jericho

Its population was just over 1200 people who lived inside the City Walls

Jericho had ample food supplies to keep its inhabitants well supplied during a siege

Looking at Jericho from the outside you would have seen two walls being separated by an
embankment or slope, its was well fortified and its foundations where strong

Jericho was designed to withstand any army attack and from the outside looked impossible to
penetrate

A wall over 20' high or 8 meters high, surrounded the city of Jericho this would have been
about 14 meters above ground level or 46 feet above ground level

From this wall the embankment or slope rolled down to the second wall, this wall again
being around about the same width and height stood against the retaining wall which held
and retained the weight of the slope and second wall

This 5 meter high retaining wall was the third and final wall making Jericho almost impossible
to penetrate

Inbetween the two main walls of Jericho lived the poorer people who were to be housed outside
of the main City, this takes us to Rahab the prostitute who lived in a home that was part of the
outer wall of the City
.....................................................................

WALLS

You see all through history God had cried out to His people and Gods people had kind of
"Built walls around themselves" and we can also see this as the "Old and New Testaments"
standing side by side

Walls of denominational differences, walls of theological thoughts , walls of "Old Testament and
New Testament" barriers, and shall we go on

For years Gods people had and have prostituted themselves to other gods and worshipped other gods
we looked last time at how we all worship something but when we are saved our focus of worhip is changed !

So we see the harlot of the heart and we see a God who cries out to His people all through
Gods word and not just in the Old Testament !

And so we have one who lived within the City walls called Rahab "A Prostitute"

So what of the people inside the City of Jericho.....?

Rahabs sins were seen and others who lived within the city had sins that were hidden !

So we see that in the end in Gods eyes the people were commiting adultery with their hearts

But of course man looks at the outside appearance....does'nt he ?

So here is Rahab living between the City walls in a home built within the outer wall of Jericho

And we see that she helped the spies sent by Joshua , to escape one night ....

And so Gods people marched around the city and the walls came crashing down

God caused part of the walls of Jericho to come down causing a
way for Gods armies to enter the City ? BUT Rahab's house was spared, saved

She and her family were saved ! God had mercy on her, although everything else came
tumbling down around her , she was saved and was able to escape

You see it was'nt just the one wall that came down, the inner wall of the
city AND the outer wall would have collasped onto and down the
retaining wall, thus enabling the armies of God to climb up the side of the retaining wall and
into the outer parts of the poorer quarters of Jericho

From there the armies would have climbed the embankment and then entered in through the
now collapsed inner wall of the city

Two walls came down that day, two walls came crashing down And the outer wall collapsing over and down the reatining wall , enabled Gods armies to climb up And we see that no one was saved except "Rahab the prostitute"

Was'nt she under Gods judgement ? surely she was seen as a harlot !

Were'nt the people in the City upright and considered respected people of nobility ? NO

...................................................................

Now we come to Psalms 88 and 89

Psalm 89 was written at a time when Jerusalem was destroyed

And we see the City Of Jerusalem, that City of God that did not want the King of Kings but wanted instead
a King like other nations, in this coveting and adultery they had become the harlot , Hosea 1

This does not simply apply to Jerusalem but applies to all nations and applies to anyone, that is to individuals
that worship anything other than God / Jesus

"Who then can be saved ? "said the disciples, and Jesus said "With God all things are possible"

You see Gods grace abounds even when in our walled city of the heart we do not respond

And so the City walls of Jerusalem were destroyed , the city layed in ruins

This is where Psalms 88 and 89 are coming from and take time to read through Psalms 88 and 89 and as you do you will once again see the "Sea Monster" mentioned, this is the mythical sea monster of Egypt otherwise known as YES "Rahab" , you can read it in Psalm 89:10

This is not the "Rahab" who God saved

And we read in Psalm 89:40 You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins. Read through Psalms 88 and 89 yourself and see what this Psalm is saying
.........................................................................................
One last thing I wnat to add, after finishing this message I went off to Church and the guest speaker got up to speak and the message just happened to be about "Gods Grace" and the verse she was preaching on was...........yes you got it
Ephesians 1:5
.........................................................................................

It is my hope that this message has maybe opened eyes to see that the Old Testament is not so far apart from the
New, in fact let that outer wall come down to see that God saves by His Grace Walk through the outer wall and into the inner sanctuary knowing that the inner wall of the Old Testament is
still to be found, in the words of Julius Caesar let it be known that you came, your saw and you conquered
"Veni, vidi, vici" -------------------------------------------------------------

Lord God In Jesus name open our eyes to the Old and the New that your name might be glorified In Jesus
name Amen
