Temptation of Jesus
Temptation of Jesus (Photo credit: Walwyn)

Author Guardian

Psalm 23,

Lord Father God in Jesus name don't lead me with your Rod and Staff down the road of
discipline and correction like the prodigal son, Lord don't lead me down the road of
temptation that I might be tested,

Lord don't lead me down the road where I need to be
delivered, but if you do lead me down the road of temptation in your deliverance may
you have the glory and let it strengthen me and compell me to draw nearer to you

Thankyou that in you I have all I need because Jehovah Jireh lives in me and let me want for more of you and less of self.

Help me not to leap ahead before my training and preparation is finished, help me to be patient and to wait for your timing, help me to be completely dependent on you as the sheep are dependent soley on the Shepherd,

We feed from the manger and rather than wanting from you..that which you have already
provided, we bring you gifts of our hearts and give to you In Jesus name amen

Again we turn to focus and we turn our eyes to The Father,

Firstly lets go to the Manger, or the feeding trough, this may not have been made out
of wood as many depict but of stone, an animal feeding trough and here we have the Lamb of God .

The Son Of God being brought gifts from the magi, here totally dependent on
God, totally dependent on Father, totally dependent and listening to the Great Shepherd.

Jesus's temptations did not start after being baptised and being led into the
wilderness by the Holy Spirit, the temptations were there from the beginning right until the end.

What a temptation to speak out things unknown ?

What a temptation to speak above peoples heads ?

What a temptation to display the wisdom of ages and unravel mysteries untold ?

You say " He did " no , He only displays that which was understood !!

That which He unravelled was only a tiny fraction for us to marvel at, it was the
mystery of salvation.

Think what wonders lie ahead ?

He spoke to people on their they understand...He the greatest mathematician, He the greatest scientist, He the greatest physician, He the greatest inventor, He the greatest theologian, the einstein of Einsteins, kneels down and washes the feet of the disciples !!

What a temptation to wield that power in flesh ?

What a temptation when calling up Lazarus from the dead ..not to call up the entire dead

What a temptation to go ahead and start His Ministry before the allotted time ?

What a temptation to steer away from the Cross ?

What a temptation while on the Cross to call down legions of angels to help ?

But Jesus only walked as His Shepherd Father Instructed

He only said what His Father Shepherd told Him to say

He only moved as His Father Shepherd instructed

Being led by His Father Shepherds Staff and Rod

And we having Jehovah Jireh in us do the same

Jesus was as a Lamb being led to the slaughter by the Father Shepherds Rod and Staff

Jesus was led out into the wilderness to be tempted there by satan

He was led out by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted !!

This is the Fathers Rod and Staff guiding Jesus into temptation to be tested !!

NOW it is time for Jesus to go out and for His ministry on earth to begin

( As if it had ever started or ended )

The Father Son And Holy Spirit minister in eternity and have always been ministers

Administering and ministering from the beginning and before time

What a temptation to launch out before His time ? what a temptation to avoid THE
Temptations in the wilderness ?

But we know that temptation is not a sin and we know that there is a way back to God
if we fall to temptation although Jesus never did

We know that the Good Shepherd ...for there is ONLY ONE GOOD SHEPHERD, gives
His life for the Sheep, as the Lamb of God and we in turn give our very lifes..

The Rod and Staff in this picture given in Psalm 23 can be seen as many things, again
we see simple pictures, pictures and images that can be understood by all.

We can in fact see the Rod and Staff as Jesus, the rod was used not just for protection but for marking of the see a shepherd would often lay accross the doorway to the sheep pen at night thus protecting the sheep from harm, thus Jesus is known as " the door " "The Rod "

Ezekiel 20:37

"I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the
covenant." And again, "In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the valley,
shall the flocks pass again under the hands of Him that tells them, says the Lord."

And yet once more, "Concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord."

Also Malachi 3:10

The Rod is also for separating ...

Children can understand the picture of a Shepherd and sheep and they can understand
the concept, this does not mean that they understand the deeper meanings of Gods word
or the deeper meanings of Psalm 23, but they can understand a simple picture

Out of the mouths of babes and infants He has ordained praise and we as baby sheep are lambs

And so we see that Jesus is led out into the wilderness to be tempted there by satan in Luke 4:1-13 and we see then that Jesus starts His journey/ministry

YOU SAY " Lord useeee meeeeeeeeeeeee " oops

Maybe you might have a preparation ahead ? maybe you might be led by the Rod and Staff into temptation to be tested first ?

You see Jesus did'nt go His own way, otherwise He would have sinned, He was led by the Father, by the Holy Spirit into temptation !! this was meant to happen !!

THEN it was time , NOW He was ready,

Do you keep on going back to the same temptation over and over and over ?

Why do you think it keeps on hounding you ?

Is this a temptation that you are going back to like the Prodigal son ? or is this a
temptation which you are led into to make you stronger it a testing ?

There is no sin in being tempted, we are tempted all our lifes the same as Jesus was
tempted from the moment he was born in flesh, but there is also a temptation of testing when we are led out and tested to prepare us for what lies ahead.

Why are we speaking about temptation here when this message is about the 23rd Psalm ?

Well while thinking about the 23rd Psalm the Lords prayer kept coming back to me over and over and " lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one "

You can see how this message is backed up over and over by discussions on one of our

So lets look at the 23rd Psalm briefly and I'm going put it alongside Matthew 6:9-13

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my Shepherd, I have all that I need...

Matthew 6:9-11

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread

The Lord already knows our needs before we ask Him, but He wants us to ask Him, because
like the heavenly Father that He is...He wants communication, He wants interaction.

Although we have all we need because He gives us our daily bread, we might want more
of Him even though He is in us ...the great Jehovah Jirah...

Why do you think He makes us thirsty and leads us beside a stream ?

In the same way as Jesus needed the Father...He listened to the Father, He did all that the Father said, He was completely dependent on the Father, even though He was Jehovah Jireh, in His weakness was the Fathers Strength.

He needed the Father, He communicated with the Father, He interacted with the Father,
He went away by Himself often to talk to the Father, your heavenly Father and My heavenly Father, even though His Father and yours knows the needs and the wants

In a nutshell, we are not too want/need as the world wants/needs and to be tempted into wordly deires that lead to frustration and dissulusionment.

But we are to focus on Him who
is the provider and as we want more of Him and need more of Him and seek Him above all else we will find the things we most desire and find joy and satitisfaction.

The Father is not saying through Jesus " Do not want or need "

Of course we want and need....but seek first the Kingdom of God, because God knows your heart better than you do yourself and only He can fill that need of the heart

We go back to the vision of the steps and looking to Jesus above all else

He gives us the desires of our hearts....needs ....wants....longings, because only He
knows what our hearts are really longing for !!

Like children screaming and kicking for sweets and when they finally get their sweets
it only satifies for a brief time, they look here and there for new things, they look
everywhere and search for that thing they think will satisfy.

And it seems all their lifes they never really find anything that gives them more than a temporary never really satifies their needs, and really they haven't got a clue what they want

But He gives us the desires of our hearts, only Him , because only He knows what can
satisfy that need, and as we walk in His ways, In His will, in His path may be
hard, it may seem too hard at times...

But as we focus on Him and Him alone and we reach for His Kingdom ...all these gaps and inward longings are met, not always straight away, Gods Kingdom is not always an
instant NOW Kingdom .

We have all that we need because we have Jesus, but we want and need more of Him

Matthew 6:12-13 ( King James )

12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Psalm 23 (New International Version)

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Lead me not into temptation , but deliver me from the evil one !!

Mark 1 (New International Version)

12At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, 13and he was in the desert forty
days, being tempted by Satan.

When you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit see this as a good thing, this is the Rod and staff guiding you away, this is the Rod and Staff leading you, this is correction.

The prodigal son knew of the Rod of correction, he walked the path of his own doing and he knew the Rod of conviction, and he was able to go back to the Father, even though Jesus never left Him.

But here in Psalm 23 we see a valley we see the darkness of death and the enemy, we see the dying to self and we see the total dependence on the Great Shepherd

In Matthew we see the rod and staff leading into temptation for a testing

The enemy may try to condemn you, he may try to twist the word, he may try to deceive you, you can hear the same words uttered in Genesis by the serpent...when Eve hungered the enemy said " did God say ? "

Where is your Shepherd ? why not provide for yourself ?

Jesus was in need ..He hungered...and the enemy goes for the weakness and Jesus goes for the Fathers strength "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread
alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God "

Completely dependent, focus, seek first the King..the Kingdom.

Listening to God the Father, speaking His words, doing as He says,

There was never a sin in temptation, but O for the one who is tempting

Or you may be the prodigal who fell to temptation, but Jesus is always there with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you and He will bring you back to the Father

The Prodigal learnt much from this road of learning and he came back to the flock

In John Chapter 10:1-21 we read about The Shepherd and His Flock the Good Shepherd

David having been a shepherd and being a King understood the role of the Shepherd,
David had to go through the preparation time, David had to wait for Gods timing, he
had to learn to wait upon God the Father and to listen and wait.

David had needs and wants, David went through severe times of testing when all seemed
against him, and David was tempted when alone and fell to this temptation 2 SA 11:2

David knew that all the treasures he had were nothing, because he still had wants and
needs and desires that could only be satisfied in God alone, because only God can
give the real desires of our hearts because only God knows what we really need.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psalm 27:4-6 (Amplified Bible)

4One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently]
require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

5For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His
tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.

6And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent
I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Philippians 1:21-23 - "To Die Is Gain"

You see Jesus was baptised...baptism is symbolic of dying to the old and living to the new, then Jesus was led out into the wilderness to be tempted there by satan !!

Every day we die to self as Christians, because we have Christ in us, it is no longer I but Christ in me and the life that I live I live by faith.

Jesus having been baptised went to the wilderness, He was led out, He faced death
, He walked through that valley, we walk through that valley

At the point of weakness, at the point of greatest need , at the point of hunger and thirst temptation comes, temporary satisfaction looms, But Jesus looked to the still waters

He looked to that stream, He was thirsty, He was in need, He longed and wanted for
His need to be quenshed, he had'nt eaten, He hungered, He thirst, and at the point of His greatest need, He looked to that which is eternal

He died to Himself and spoke into the face of His enemy

And He spoke the words of His Father

Man shall not live by bread alone by by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God

We are not be be afraid in this valley of death, for we have the great Shepherd guiding us

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

And when we thirst we have the still waters of His voice

Revelation 7:17 (New American Standard Bible)

17for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide
them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their

The Father Shepherd prepares a feast for us in the prescence of our enemies

He is preparing a place for us as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death

We shall fear no evil for He is with us Guiding us on with His Rod and Staff

We will dwell in the house of the Lord forever

He has anointed our heads with oil

1 John 2:20 "But you have an anointing from the Set-Apart One, and all of you know the truth."

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of Lords favor."

2 Corinthians 1:21 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in
Jesus. And so through him the "SO BE IT, AMEN." is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Him. He anointed us, set his
seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Psalm 23: 6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Pray with me now

Are you like the prodigal son right now ? away from God and hearing Him calling you
back home ?

Speak out to God now and run back to Him

Speak out these words with me

Lord Father God in Jesus mighty name I want and need you and I ask you back into my life as I run back to you for help and I ask for your forgiveness and cleansing and filling and restoration and thankyou thatt you forgive and forget and you wipe the slate clean, I want to start again in Jesus name amen

Are you going through a testing time ? we all walk through the valley ...but how do we walk through the valley ?

Pray with me...and speak out the words of life

Lord God in Jesus name I know you are there with me always, Lord help me not to be afraid, renew my strength and restore me, protect me and let me know the refreshing of that stream of life rushing through

Lord I come to you as nothing, that you might be my everything, help me through this time of testing and lead me on with your rod and staff to do your will in Jesus name amen

The Tree Of the Knowledge or the Tree of Life ,Psalm 15-16,

Precious Tree of Life - I am here
Precious Tree of Life - I am here (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
The Tree Of the Knowledge ? or the Tree of Life ?

Author Guardian

And so in this Nurture Group we are continuing the theme of the Psalms and as we
look to Psalm 15 & 16 we continue to look at Worship.

We have seen how we can let things get in the way between us and God and how
things can desolate our lifes sin can lead to death and shipwreck

How we can be in a desert experience, where the golden
calf can become an idol or we can look back at Egypt and long for the old times.

In our old life When it seemed we had all we needed and even though we were slaves to
Egypt ( the world )we felt we were looked after and now here we are in this wilderness
and we hunger and we thirst and we cam moan and groan and we walk on with God before us
and yet we still look back and moan and groan and long for days gone.

We can seek to serve two masters and yet we have neither one nor the other.

We can watch the Moses ahead of us and we can see the way he worships
and the sacrifice He makes and how he lays down His life to serve
us and yet we complain.

For we let that abomination that causes desolation effect not just our past life but
our new life now and that desolation effects our worship of God who leads us on.

We watch Moses go up that Holy Hill and we stay at the bottom " unclean " and we
worship the god in our life

And as it says in Psalm 15

" WHO may enter your prescence on your Holy Hill ? "

Lets come to Him now and lay down that god before His feet and see ( dagon 1 Samuel 5 )
tumble over and smash before the one and true God ,

Lord God In Jesus powerful name we lay down anything that may get between us and you,
if we have a god, Lord we lay it down before your feet.

We lay down our very lifes and
let us know joy when you know joy and sadness when you know sadness and pain when you
know pain and anger when you know anger and hurt when you know hurt.

Laughter when
you laugh and fellowship as you see fellowship and friendship as you see friendship and
let us see through your eyes and know as you know and perceive as you perceive and think
as you think and begin to love as you love.

Let us know your heart Lord...

Let us be a representation of you, as Jesus was and is an exact representation of you.

Let us represent you Lord and show others what you are like

Not some made up, make believe story but a story of a true and living God who works in
and through His people that people might say " HE IS ALIVE "

Not some religious out working of man or some outpouring of a heart that seeks it own
ends but that of a heart layed down ...that lets go of self in order to gain.

Let us not hide behind good works and charity, as though these things would cover us
over and hide our sin and hide our false charade, but let us hide in you Lord and
let others see the result of what you do through us

Let that work be a work that
does not fall down over time and become a house built on sand but let it be an enduring
work from you and of you .

Not of flesh but of Spirit and let that storm come and let that
house stand and let not the thief steal away from that house but let Yourself come and
steal us away and let us be in complete abandonment to you

We do not seek to gain and loose our souls, but we seek to loose in order to gain and
our gain is you Lord for in you is all and all is in you.

We lay down these things to gain life .......... everlasting life not of ourselves but
of you , an eternal spirit world of our own is nothing withotu you Lord...

YOU ahve eternity and YOU are eternity.... what is eternity without you ?

We lay down our lifes to gain Your life, that we might have life and have life in
abundance in Jesus name amen

And so lets begin with the first mention of the Cross figuratively speaking,
and we come to the Tree in Genesis and we turn to Genesis 2:16 - 17

You see ? we could say that through our disobedience that we fell !!

Did you have parents who never seemed to be satisfied with anything you did ?

Are you a parent who wants your children to be what you could never be ?

Have you found that you had too prove yourself to others ?

did you in your need to be accepted do things you regret because you wanted to be in
a certain group ?

Have you known peer pressure ?

None of us will ever be good enough, all of us have missed the mark...

All have sinned and fall short, all of us are or were guilty and sentenced.

But God in His love His unconditional love...sends a valentine gift..

Not just for one day but for eternity and He says He loves you and me..

Whatever we have done and whatever we have been and however far we have fallen and
however much we have missed the mark and however guilty the enemy may make us feel.

God in His Son says " YOU ARE FREE.,...I LOVE YOU....YOU ARE NOT GUILTY "

In this relationship He gives us a love that outpours and saturates and overflows.

His blood can make the foulest clean and He loves you no matter what...

All of us whether we are Christians or not fall, but have we anyone to pick us up ?

We cannot always rely on man ,....can we ?

When was the last time someone let you down ?

GOD NEVER LETS US DOWN, may seem that He might...BUT HE NEVER LETS

His promises are true and what HE says... He does, He is a God of action .

And so we come to the Tree in Genesis ...what do you think or Whom do you think the
tree might signify ?

Look at this another way maybe ?

Lets look at this story from a different angle and see ourselves taking from this tree !!

Philippians 1:21-23

"For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain...having the desire to depart and be
with Christ, for that is very much better"

Said Paul in one of his letters...

Paul had learnt the secret of loosing His life to gain,he had learnt the secret of
" The Sabbath Rest "

You see when in disobedience we take from the Tree.....God knew we would !!!

Jesus knew we would ? you see we eat from the Tree of life and we have eternal life
with God , nothing can separate us can it ?

But then we eat from the Tree of ? good and evil !!!

We find separation don't we ? even as Christians we might feel like theres something
there ? something is getting in the way ? an abomination ? a god ? a sin ?

So we take from the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil , in other words we as Christians
are disobedient

Picture Jesus on the Tree/Cross taking our sin away and here is where we die to sin.

We lay down before the feet of Jesus that sin that is separating us.

We basically fall down and here Jesus takes on Himself our sin that we might continue
to eat from the Tree of life.

Which Tree are you taking from ?

But again you come back to Christ as you eat from His Tree of life now and when again now
as a Christian you do that thing you know you should'nt !! you turn and die ....

You lay down that thing before the feet of Jesus and you cause that thing to die in your
life for if you do not it will desolate you , it will cause you to fall.

Sin leads to death...cut it off

He prunes us, He gives us the nourishment to produce fruit that He uses, He forgives, but we
also play a part

But as you come to that Tree and you come to that Cross so Jesus takes that sin on
Himself even now ...who was and is and is to come, He takes that sin right now at this
very moment and takes it upon Himself.

You see it takes two in a relationship, it takes you to go to God and talk to God and In Jesus
name you give over to Him and ask for forgiveness and repent and in turn He takes it and
releases you and makes you new and cleanses you and your relationship is restored and
He forgets.

But you also die to self in Him, you die to your ways and live in His ways.

You cut off that thing that causes destruction and harm , for far better to enter heaven
without that sin than to enter hell..Mark 9:43-48

God also prunes us and as we abide in Him we produce fruit John 15:1 - 8

But it takes two in a relationship and we put to death htose things which are not of God
Colossians 3:5

You put that thing to death at the Tree and it dies and you gain.

What do you gain ? the Tree of life !!

Now lets go on and look at some Cross References and a Cross reference takes us to !!

Genesis 3:1 - 3

" The serpent said " EAT OF THE TREE YOU WON'T DIEEEE ! ?

Don't believe the enemy, you will die, for one sin leads to another and to another.

And we all have testimonies of where we went and the journeys we walked before salvation

Sometimes we might have to get to a place in our lifes where we eat and feed with the
pigs like the prodical son, sometimes we have to get to a place where we cannot go
on ourselves..

And we get to a place where we meet with Jesus and we might find He takes us and
welcomes us back home and we reach a place where we die to self to gain Christ
who is life

But What a great thing to loose your life and gain eternal life !!

What a great thing to see that sin die, what a great thing to lay down to gain.

This is exactly what Jesus did Himself...He layed down His life to gain and what an
inheritance, what a train....what a family He has

You see Adam and Eve would take from that Tree ..they always have...we always have

But this is the reason for Jesus hanging on the Tree that we might have life and
have life in abundance not just in eternity but NOW.

We all have a choice, many may want to live in the " world " but some walk through
the narrow way and find the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of...

To die is to gain and to live is to serve as Christ served and gave Himself as a ransom
for many

that many might have life and have it in abundance not in a desert experience
all the time ...

But we have to go through a desert experience to learn and to grow and to seek
and to is in the desert experience that we learn the most sometimes and
this is where the tree grows its roots the deepest, let your roots grow deep into
Gods word .

We walk
into that garden of plenty and take from that Tree of life that we might have that
abundant life now and take from the fruits of the land of plenty and know that fruit in
our lifes NOW.

To take from the Tree of life and to know that land flowing with milk and honey NOW.

Yes we have to go through the wilderness to reach the promised land and in that
preparation God teaches
us and prepares us and talks to us.

He leads us and nurtures us and cares for us and
provides fo us and gives us manna and quail and water and food and oasis and spring and
well and mountian and hill and times of plenty and times of distress and times of hunger
and times of plenty.

But He has also given us this land that He has prepared called the promised land,
we can walk into it NOW and taste and see

Now we can begin to live the fullness of life in abundance and know the inheritance
and begin to live now in eternity

But what of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil ? its still here is'nt it ?

Very tempting is'nt it ?

Very tempting to'nt it ? even as Christians we can be disobedient can't
we ? the tree is still around is'nt it ?

satan said to Jesus " You can have the whole world ..all these kingdoms" in Matthew
4 verse 8..

But what is the profit if you gain the whole world .. but loose your soul ?

Lets look at Another Cross Reference

Isaiah 14

In Isaiah 14 and from verse 12 onwards we read about pride and those lofty things
that would set themselves above God and seek to be above the Holy One who made all

Whether you interpret Isaiah 14: 12 onwards as satan falling from heaven or whether you
interpret this as Senacherib or King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylohn makes no difference,
the forces that lie behind this are pride and greed and those things that would try to set
themselves above God Himself.

3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds;)

5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of

We can seek to build our own kingdoms, we can seek in our hearts to be empire
builders and build a " tower of babylon " we can seek in our hearts to have power and
influence before man, we can seek to build our house , but unless the Lord builds the
House they labour in vain that build it.

We can believe that we are gods unto ourselves and our lifes are ours for the making and
the world is our oyster and seek to build and own and live for our needs and wants and
pleasures and prosper and enjoy life now and live for today.

But this is folly and satan himself knows that time is short and the demons know that time is
short and even if you gain the whole world and even if satan comes to you and shows
you all the empires and kingdoms of the world with all its wealth and all its glory and
says to you " you can have all this if you worship me "

It is nothing compared to Christ....

What do you think it means when satan says " worship me " ?

What does He mean by worship him ? the moment we start to think about taking from
that fruit of that tree of disobedience and begin to walk in the opposite direction
to what God would want for us and what God has planned for us and we turn away from
God and we seek to build our own lifes ...

Do our own thing and we deny God and we take from that tree of the world ....

the moment we start to think about
how good Egypt was ( our past lifes ) and start to think about going back and we turn
and take !!

We begin to worship another god and sin starts to creep in and begins to creep up slowly
like an ivy but the world with all its pleasures and all its attractions are nothing
compared to Christ.

Why take from the Tree of good and evil when we can take from the tree of life ?

In Isaiah 14 we read about the one who fell from heaven and we come back to where
we started in the Garden of eden where we see the serpent full of pride and greed

We also see kings mentioned here which can be interpreted as kings of the earth and
babylon but whatever way you look at it and interpret these verses it is satan behind
the pride , satan is speaking and deceiving.

Funny how sometimes we can hear the enemy speak but not God is'nt it ?

Strange how people can be more excited about spirits and the dead than God is'nt it ?

Strange how the world always looks more atractive than Church is'nt it ?

Strange how the forbidden can always seem more atractive than those things that
are allowed is'nt it ?

satan fell from heaven here in Isaiah as the king of babylon falls and anything that tries
to exalt itself above God will fall.

Lets look at one more Cross reference

Luke 10:18

18And He said to them, I saw Satan falling like a lightning [flash] from heaven.

Jesus was there when satan fell ....

satan tried to exalt himself above God and he was cast down..

kings try to exalt themselves as gods and are cast down...

people try to exalt themselves above God by thinking they are gods themselves and
are cast down.

Our very thoughts and imaginations can exalt themselves above God and are cast down

5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of

Anything that exalts itself above God will always be cast down because there is no
other God.

And again we see that when we take of Christ we have the authority robe of Christ

19Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and
scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the
enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.

20Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice
that your names are enrolled in heaven.

Lets come to Jesus now and lay down those things that would seek to get in the way
and exalt themsleves in our lifes above God and become an abomination that leads
to desolation

Lets come to God now and lay down our very lifes at the Tree that we might loose
our lifes to gain life.

To be in complete abandonment..... to let Him have walk up that hill and
be a sacrifice of a life laid down for Him

Let us holf nothing back but come to Him who is above all things that when we let go
and let God......we might see that by loosing we gain

Pray with me and let go at the Cross

Lord I come to you and lay my life down before you that I might gain you above all
else and nothing else matters and nothing is above you for in you all things move
and have there being and hold together.

Lord I come to the Cross and I lay myself down before you , use me Lord and take
my life ,

Let me know the power of your resurrection life as I abandon myself to you.

Lord I take from the Tree of life and I walk away from all that which would seek
to have control over me

That you might reign and rule and have your way in me In Jesus name amen

The Six Cities Of Refuge,Psalm 25-27,

The Six Cities Of Refuge,The Sanctuary Of Sacrifice,

Author Guardian

Psalm 25-27,The City On a Hill,

Transitions and changes take place all the time in heaven and in spiritual places,
we see that the spiritual is far bigger and greater than the physical world
around us and most of the time we are unaware of the battles and warfares that
rage in spiritual places

Most of us have experienced times of change when things have taken us by surprise
and we can look back and think " I never thought I would be doing this "

This study message echoes and speaks of a turning point and as you read these
prophetic words try to hear Gods voice

Firstly lets turn to scripture and we look at Psalm 26 and 27

Psalm 26 (New Living Translation)

8 I love your sanctuary, Lord, the place where your glorious presence dwells.

The life application study bible translates it as

He will hide me in His Sanctuary

Psalm 26 (King James Version)

8LORD, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine
honour dwelleth.

And Psalm 27

I love the message translation or paraphrase that reads

Psalm 27:6 God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down.
I'm headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof!
Already I'm singing God-songs; I'm making music to God.

7-9 Listen, God, I'm calling at the top of my lungs, "Be good to me! Answer me!"
When my heart whispered, "Seek God," my whole being replied,
"I'm seeking him!" Don't hide from me now!

9-10 You've always been right there for me; don't turn your back on me now.
Don't throw me out, don't abandon me; you've always kept the door open.
My father and mother walked out and left me, but God took me in.

Psalm 27 (King James Version)

4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell
in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the
LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of
his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

And finally the Amplified translation ( Or expanded bible )

Psalm 27 (Amplified Bible)

1THE LORD is my Light and my Salvation--whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is
the Refuge and Stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?

2When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh,
they stumbled and fell.

3Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise
against me, [even then] in this will I be confident.

4One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and
[insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His
presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet
attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate,
consider, and inquire in His temple.(A)

5For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret
place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.

and verse 8

8You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital
need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek,
inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word].

And so we come to Psalms 26 and 27

Lets Pray

Lord God in Jesus mighty name revealer and enlightener of our lifes, light up the
path ahead of us and reveal to us new things, give us hope where there is despair.

Justice where there is injustice, and shelter where there is a storm, and
refuge where the is pain , safety where there is danger and make for us those
cities of refuge where we can flee in times of calamity and danger,

in times of
trouble and despair , in times of injustice be the judge and bring sentence to
those oppressors of the truth , if they have not already been sentenced.

Lord let the words I type and the thoughts I receive now be of you and let your
Holy Spirit speak through me , that the Holy Spirit might speak deeply into hearts
and lifes and bring these things to remembrance when needed, not to debate and to
throw around as pearls before swine but to use in action in our lifes.

Let us be doers of the word in deed , thought and action Lord and let the nations
gather at the entrances to the city gates of the places of refuge,

where those
that have seen injustice or convicted by the world may flee to safety and find you
as their sanctuary and refuge in times of trouble and injustice.

In Jesus name amen

Now I have no idea where this came from and this was not pre planned but it seems
we are going to look at the cities of refuge.

The cities of refuge where setup as places to flee to ,for those who were
convicted or threatened or sentenced,
they were to be places of refuge sanctuaries, places of safety, fortresses,

Altogether there were 6 cities of refuge

We see these mentioned in Joshua 20:1-9 and Numbers 35:1-34

You see when you find or found injustice in your life you could and can and will
be able to flee to a city of refuge, you may be convicted by the world...
But you can run to a City Of Refuge, you can be set free !!

Once you are inside the City you could not leave that City for if you left that
City the avenger of the blood may kill you, you can read this in
Numbers 35:26-27.

You see if you run to one of the Cities of Refuge, you would be running for
your life literally, you may be falsely accused by an accuser who would seek to
take your life.

In Old Testament times it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,
Matthew 5:38-48 , it was yours to avenge, if someone killed your brother even if
it was accidental, you would kill the killer

Again we read about this in Numbers 35:19 The avenger of blood shall put the
murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death.

The world would have you condenmed to death, we were all condenmed to death,
all of us walking in our own ways were enemies of God

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death
of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life

But although we were on death row, although we were condemned, although we were
destined to the grave, Jesus Christ went outside the City to pay the price by His
blood, so that the accuser of the brethren could not make allegations against us

At the time of being saved YOU fled, YOU ran , YOU fled for your life to the
City of refuge

And if you do not know Christ, If you are outside of the City Of God, you too
can hear His voice calling you and flee to Him and you can be welcomed in, having
been set free from the accuser

A this time you can flee to a place of safety, one of the six cities of refuge

You see in that time it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and things
were dealt with in that way,

If you were one of the people who stood at the city gate wanting justice , you
would be seen by the Elders of that City and if seen as innocent, you could
enter that city

Now we take this to our own lifes and we see that each one of us was guilty,
each one of us was sentenced to death, each one of us was a sinner, each one
of us had broken the law, I say again " EACH ONE OF US HAD BROKEN THE LAW "

We were all convicts put in prison, we were all sentenced to death

BUT we fleed to a place of safety, we fleed to one of the six cities of refuge

we stood at the City gates and we heard, "WHO IS THE KING OF GLORY"

Now we may not have quite come to God like that but basically and simply we were
sentenced to death and we stood at the gates of life and we cried out to God

And in whatever words you may have used or use you asked Him into your Temple..

your heart...your life...

And He replied " COME ENTER IN " and we entered into that Holy Place, that " City
of refuge " that Sanctuary, that haven, that land flowing with milk and honey..

Do you see how this all ties in with previous messages ? I just realised lol

You see you were sentenced to death and Jesus by His blood made you not guilty,
as you passed through the gate of the city you were wiped clean and received robes
of a saint, you who were dirty inside.

little me who was sentenced and convicted,
us who were guilty and imprisoned , received a " not guilty " verdict and were
released into a new life , a new city, a new path, a new family.

You see everyone is or was sentenced to death, the whole of humanity was
sentenced to death, but Jesus paid the price for our release.

Why go to death and to sentence when you can flee to a city of safety ?

You see God is a merciful God and it was God who ordered these cities to be
established, not as religious centers where man has control and makes the rules,
but these cities were established by God and by Gods command, a place where God
has control, where Christ is King and where we live in His Kingship

Once you are in the City of refuge you are saved and you are safe, you stay in
the City, you would not go outside for that would mean death, you stay in your
City of refuge...

You see you can never flee from God wherever you might go He is always there

You cannot walk out of this relationship with God you know ?

You cannot walk outside of the City once you are in it !!

You may try to run away, but He is always there, you may not be able to go
outside of the City but you can still run away from God

You can be in a family but be separate from that family !!

You can be in a crowd of people and yet be lonely !!

You can have God in you and yet God can seem a million miles away !!

You can be inside that City other words In Gods Kingdom and yet not be
a part of it !!

You can be a million miles away from God and yet still go through the Christian
rituals and appear to do the same as everyone else !!

He will always be at the city gate waiting for you, saying " Lets start again "

Now that is confusing for our minds is;nt it ?

David says in Psalm 26:8 I love the house where you live, O LORD,
the place where your glory dwells. 2 Samuel 6:17

David loved to worship God and David was a man after Gods own heart, this did
not mean that David was on a permanent high, it did not mean that David walked
around with a permanent grin on his face

In fact David had many times when he was down, many times when he was giving up,
many times when he cried out to God, many times when he was hunted by his
enemies and wrongly accused, many times when the accuser would chase after Him,
many times when he could not go on

But David always returned to God, to the God of His salvation, to His fortress,
because David was being saved as we are being saved

You see before I started preparing this message I had in mind about a paradox
or what seems to be a paradox or two conflicting things.

Like two swords coming
from two directions at once, and I was considering how God is in us and yet how
when we draw near to Him He draws near to thats a conflict

And now we see the same paradox in fact you can associate this with the prodigal
son and the Father waiting for Him

You could also associate this with King David in this Psalm as He marches into
The City of Jerusalem with the Ark of the Covenant or the Ark of the Testimony

Wowww what a testimony as you are convicted to death and sentenced and yet you flee
to a City of Refuge and the elders announce you " NOT GUILTY " you may enter the

You see the Father was calling you to the City, He was calling you to His place
of safety where you could rest in His arms...

The six cities of refuge provided by God were to the East and to the west of
Jordan !!

Matthew 24:27

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so
shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

You say " what is the condition of entering a City of refuge ? "

He replies " YOU HAVE TO BE A SINNER "

Notice you would run to the City of rtefuge, you would flee for your life, you
would be exhausted and tired and frightened and at the end of yourself !!

Would you walk casually up to the City Gate and say " O ok I,ll give this a go"

Would'nt the Elders of that City ask you what your crime was ?

How would you reply ? " Well I haven't done anything wrong !! but I was convinced
by someone that maybe this was the place to be , to be honest I'd rather be with
my own family ?"

Do you think the Elders of that City of Refuge would let you in ?

No of course not, if you have not been called you will not go there, if you
are looking back why would you enter into the city ?

If you do not think you have
done anything wrong, why would you flee for you life ?, Jesus is for sinners not
for " good " people, Mark 2:15-17

Do you know that these Cities were mostly seated on top of mountains or hills ?

Did you know that because of the material the walls were made of, they gleamed
in the sunlight ? , the limestone reflected the sun you see !!

Almost like beacons !! like lamps !! Like torches !! on a hill ...

Like Lamps, they were not hidden, but they were there for all to see..

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill
cannot be hidden.

All you had to do at a time in your life when you were in trouble was to flee
to one of the Six Cities of Refuge shining out like beacon lights, either to the
East or to the West !! can you think of who will come like lightning from the
east and shining even to the west ?

We run into that pillar , that fortress, that sanctuary, that beacon light ..

We run like lightning to one of those cities shining out for all to
see...for safety, and on the way we see pathways that are always kept clear
with road signs directing us as we go saying "Miklat" which means ...."Refuge"

Jesus said and says even now to those He calls " COME FOLLOW ME " becasue He
is our "Miklat" He is our Haven.

He is our saviour who climbed the hill (mountain) who went outside of the City
Gates to be sentenced to death that we might be set free to enter the Holy City.

He payed the price so that the accuser of the brethren cannot enter the City and
put us to death, for Jesus died once and for all, that we could walk into the
City and find our " Miklat "

That we could run to the place of refuge and be found " Not guilty "

Because He was sentenced in our place and those who run after you find that they
are putting Jesus on the Cross, for you are free and He pays the price.

Lift Jesus higher , lift Jesus higher , lift Him up for the world to seeeeee

As Jesus is lifted higher on the Cross so you are free in the City of Refuge

You know there were six cities of refuge !! ok ?

Some to the East and some to the west ?

Do you know what God named these cities ?

One was called Kadesh which means Righteousness

Another was called Shechem meaning, Shoulder

Yet another was called Hebron meaning, Fellowship

Another Bezer meaning, Fortress

The fifth was Ramoth meaning , Heights ...

And the sixth was Golan meaning Joy

See God makes us right, (Kadesh) we are righteous, made righteous (Kadesh)
by the blood of the Lamb

His yoke is easy and His burdon is light and we can rest upon His shoulders,
(Shechem) for the goverment is upon His shoulders (Shechem) and we can have
fellowship (Hebron) within the walls of the City Of Refuge knowing that He is
our fortress and strong tower (Bezer) and our pillar of strength (Bezer),

Blessed is the Name of the Lord, blessed is the Name of the Lord,...the name of
the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous RUN into it and they are

He is our Pillar of strength, our Horn of salvation (Bezer), our Pillar (Bezer) ,
Our strength (Bezer) , for He is seated at the right hand of God and we are
seated with Him

Luke 1:67-79 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and
has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the
house of his servant David

2 Samuel 22:3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the
horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest
me from violence.

~Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and
my high tower.

He takes us to new heights (Ramoth) were we can soar like eagles, He raises us
up (Ramoth) were our feet can be like hinds feet and we like the deer can conquer
the heights (Ramoth),

He fills us with a joy (Golan)that we cannot hold David was so full of
joy (Golan) he could not hold the joy (Golan) in....

I had'nt actually contemplated typing any of the above, so now we shall move
onto Psalm 25,26 and 27 as planned and look to David

And we learn that David wrote Psalm 24 as He moved the Ark from Obed Edom's house
to Jerusalem and now in Psalm 25,26 and 27, we read as David marches into
Jerusalem and he dances before God, before Father,Before Jesus,He dances before
the God maker and creator of the universe, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

He dances before the Maker of Jerusalem, the builder, the architect, the
foundation, Rock, Chief Cornerstone, the High Priest, The One who tabernacles,
The dweller of The Temple...Our "Miklat"

David dances before Him who was and is and is to come

He just could'nt hold his joy (Golan) in, as he marches into Jerusalem

What a Testimony of The Ark, what a testimony as we walk in to that City...

As we walk as David walked into the City Of God and we are freed from our accuser,
we are protected by God, we are saved from our enemies, we who were bound and
destined for death, we who were accused and convicted, we who were guilty.

We who were sinners, see the City gates fling wide and God is with us..

We go into that City through the gate and we learnt before that Jesus is the Gate

He is the Shepherd and He is the protector in Psalm 23

No wonder David danced for Joy (Golan), no wonder as we enter into a new life ,
in a new Kingdom, ...

Let me ask this question...did David know salvation ? did David know Joy ?

Did David know the fruits and the gifts ?

Well the Psalms he was inspired to write through the Holy Spirit certainly
displayed the gifts as in Isaiah 53 and all through the Psalms

I wonder what happened to those who went before Jesus died on the Cross ?

Have you ever wondered as David says " Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation?"

You see we are set free as we walk through the Gate and into the City that is
our refuge "Miklat"

But what of Davids accuser ?

David had many enemies and was constantly saved by God, but we read of one of
scorned and ridiculed King David as He marched into the City

In 2 Samuel 6:16 we read about David entering the City and the daughter of Saul
named Michal despised David in her heart

2 Samuel 6:16-23 (New Living Translation)

“How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing
himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!”

Now read on and note this

23 So Michal, the daughter of Saul, remained childless throughout her entire

Now read Galatians 4:22-31

You see in the City of God and in His Kingdom God looks at the heart, and you may
be in the City but away from God, but the ones who hear the message and do what
it says have a vast harvest

They have many children ...

Outside the City it is barren, inside the City is God and in Him you find refuge

Remain in the vine..without the Vine you will not bear fruit

Are you running and fleeing to that City of refuge ?

Or are you in the City but as one who is barren ?

Or are you in the City and enjoying its plenty ?

If you do not know Jesus the Son of God then pray these words

Lord God King and High Priest I want to walk into your Kingdom and know your
Kingdom life and Kingship, you have paid the price and I walk in a free man.

Lord Jesus I ask you into my life now as I enter into your Kingdom in Jesus name

If you know the Father and you have known the joy of His salvation through
Jesus but have lost your first love pray this prayer

Lord Jesus lover of my soul I ask for my first love to fill my heart again with
freshness, restore to me the joy of your salvation and renew a right Spirit
within me , in Jesus name amen
