Psalm 130, WHO CAN STAND.

 Psalm 130, WHO CAN STAND.

Again we return to Israel and an unknown author - as they struggle with sin and the depths of it.

Before looking at this Psalm - I have two pictures.

The first is of a rain drop hitting a pool of water and the ripples made by it - as it produces ripples affecting the water around..

And secondly I have a picture of a waterfall that flows down to a great depth and cascades down..

Depth seems to be the picture here and influence around.

The water seems to be significant ...in this picture.

It is a downward spiral ...

I cannot see anymore than this - and so lets begin looking into Psalm 130.

With Psalm 130 we continue in the same path as  Psalm 129 with an unknown author praying from the depths of despair and  sin, whether that depth brings with it  depression, sadness, despair, oppression, darkness, poverty, rejection, shame, fear,  and any culmination of these and more.

The bird is in this place due to sin and cries out to God from these depths.

Israel is under a new ruler and is a remnant of what it was.

Yet even in this place we see God do amazing things through Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, here even though Israel had lost it's identity and had no home - Yet God still uses His people in this situation and circumstance. 2 Corinthians 12:9 :

Now their new names were taking away their individuality Daniel 1:7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

Now we know that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, would not bow down to the statue of  Nebuchadnezzar and about the fiery furnace and Daniel  [now named - Belteshazzar] in the lions den and these were  great miracles  of God [in a foreign land]

Here in these depths of despair God gives Belteshazzar [Daniel] a vision to interpret the dream of  Nebuchadnezzar Daniel 2:19

This is a very similiar parallel to Joseph in egypt, the only difference being that Joseph did what God wanted  [by folowing God and the dreams /visions] and found himself in this dark place due to obedience and no fault of his own.

Where as Daniel and his friends were in their place [babylon] under [bondage/imprisoned/oppressed/ ]  due to Israels sin/disobedience/.

As with Joseph King Nebuchadnezzar put Daniel in a high place Daniel 2:48  ...

Now back to Belteshazzar's [Daniel's] neighbours/friends/family/   Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were lifted up from the depths Daniel 2:49 Moreover, at Daniel's request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court.
Meanwhile the speckled bird looked for the waterfall or a ripple, when God would lift it up and give it flight - that it may return to it's home and God might hear it's prayer.

Here others of the "Lord" [Israel now under exile and bondage] continued under persecution/bondage/inprisonment/but a remnant/ destitute,alone,forsaken/

God used a few to proclaim His mighty acts while under babylonian rule while exiled - but many continued to cry out from the depths and too interceed on behalf of Israel and hope [for God had plans to propser them and not to harm them - to a hope and a future. And this is the Psalm 130 and where it comes from.

So God would save this nation yet again . [In His time] and this was prophesied by Daniel in Daniel 9:12  :  and so the exile and depths - lasted 70 years and a new generation re entered the land/home/restored/redeemed/.

We must note "that God still continued to use His people while in their depths/exile/ [whether they are mentioned in scripture or not]

We have to wait a generaton or more  for the a king called cyrus to release the captive bird and for  God to relent amd bring His people back to their homes and to their identity.

Here Israel stood and rose up [like the speckled bird]

Whether you  are in the place you are in because you serve the Lord or you are in this  place  because you have rebelled against the Lord - we see in these two instances and parallels that   - God will use rise up  and bring you  out and renew you  =  up to new levels . this is the eleventh step.

Okay - I will let scripture now prophecy what happened and things that will happen . [also applies to individuals NOW]

Isaiah 47:11  Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.
[which it did and does]

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.  and maybe this scripture might be looked at here in this context of the prophecy of Isaiah pertaining to "the captivity of Israel in babylon"

Here the people are in a deep/dark place. [that God had sent them too - but which they also created themselves]

Isaiah 44:27 who says to the watery deep, Be dry, and I will dry up your streams, 28 who says of Cyrus, He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, Let it be rebuilt, and of the temple, Let its foundations be laid.

"The waterfall and the fallen water affecting those around"

Isaiah 45:13 I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the LORD Almighty.

God used King Cyrus to release Israel.

Isaiah 46:11 From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.

This is not the speckled bird - nor Nebuchadnezzar [the golden eagle] raised up by God for a purpose to create the darkness in Isaiah 45:7  - BUT king Cyrus in   Jeremiah 48:40 raised up by God to deliver Israel. [another bird of prey] you also know that God is likened to an eagle  Deuteronomy 32:11

The speckled bird however is Jeremiah 12:9 Has not my inheritance become to me like a speckled bird of prey [color=blue]that other birds of prey surround and attack  [Now God rises to create  light in the darkness]

Isaiah 48:9 For my own names sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to destroy you completely.

Isaiah 48:20 Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of the earth; say,  The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob.

Isaiah 49:9 to say to the captives, Come out, and to those in darkness, Be free! They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill.

Isaiah 49:21 Then you will say in your heart, Who bore me these I was bereaved and barren; I was exiled and rejected. Who brought these up I was left all alone, but these where have they come from

Isaiah 58:12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings

Okay so the watchman of the city watch over the city  until the dawn ...it is like being in a darkness that will never end [an oppression] it goes on and on and seems to be in vain - until one day God raises up a person [eagle] that permits the speckled bird to leave and go back to it's home.

Now the light has dawned and it is likened to a dream - now the third watch has seen the Light of dawn ...

The watchman did not wait in vain as God raised up Israel yet again [as an eagle]

Again and Again God raises up people and this nation - this is the song of ascents.

Here scripture speaks for itself

Although your  future is by faith - your future can also lead you into dark places [into the depths] what of your faith now ?

There is a time when God will lead you out of this dark place - not by your faith but by His mercy and grace...

Lord God thankyou for raising up the eagles in their time and to cause them to fly - for the specific purpose of directing Your people - thankyou that You care enough to do this -so that You might lead Your people back home.

Thankyou Lord that You cared enough to raise up these eagles and that they were the sign /route/clear path/ and John the baptist of their time/ to not just draw people - but to lead them back to Youself.

Even though we do not "always Like Your ways"

In Jesus name Amen
