Psalm 132,THE TEMPLE BUILDER
THE TEMPLE BUILDER
2 Samuel 7:4 But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:
5 Go and tell my servant David, ?This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in 6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling.
11 The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me ; your throne will be established forever.
THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Again an unknown author - but can be seen as being in the time of rebuilding after the return from exile and the rebuilding of the second temple Ezra 5:11 .
The first temple built by Solomon also can be seen here and there is a link to Solomon being the author of this Psalm.
Which ever is seen or whatever theory / theology/ this Psalm can be said to be by King Solomon and being written in the second or third person/on behalf of/ intervention of/ intercession for.
It can be said to be a dedication Psalm written by Solomon and this seems to be confirmed to me by this ongoing study.
Notice the difficculty encountered in 2 Samuel 7:4-16 where God moves from person to person in His Tabernacling/tent to tent/ dwelling to dwelling/.
Also notice the human paradox in 11 The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom
And again with 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong/iniquity/sins/, I will punish him [today Judgement/word/] with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.
These verses begin with Solomon [remembering David his Father and the Oath /Promise/ made between the two and the son of David building the first Temple instead of King David [who dwelt in a palace and felt that God should have a better more fitting dwelling place]
Now we continue on in the line to Jesus Himself and so you see the conflict here unless you break the metaphor and see that God [The Holy Spirit] now goes to the Son of God "who does not and can not sin" and therefore is not punishied for His iniquity - but rather for others [Like David and Solomon] this is the breaking of a picture/metaphor /image/in scripture / as God moves through time/tabernacles/ as we leap to 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me ; your throne will be established forever.
Isaiah 40:31 They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk ... for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles....
I keep seeing over and over again an eagle - but this time this is a different eagle, this Eagle is a very vivid picture and she is soaring through the sky and circling around.
She is circling overhead and her eyes can see for miles around [indeed their is nothing she cannot see]
I see a nest which has been built and she is returning to this nest, which is her home, it is well built and I see a nest that is well made and attended too.
She has protected her brood and they have been born - she has brooded over her infants and has seen them come alive, she has sheltered them under Her wings and lifted them up/ raised them up in times of trouble, she has led them through the wilderness with such care and attention, She has raised up over and over again.
Now this Eagle is circling around and I see Him/Her/ looking down from a great height and she is ascending and descending in the ruach winds ... wow what freedom and what liberty although there is no emotion here.
I keep getting glimpses of Her/His nest and then down below as The Eagle circles, I see a dark building, a dwelling place, a building, a place built by man and by God and I ask "what is this ? as I see a dark place " it is not a real building.....
The reply is "It is a shadow - you see a shadow of something that was"
I begin to realise that this is a Temple built once upon a time - but is no more and it is a shadow- something that is yet to come - but has been and will be and was.
SONG OF DEDICATION
Pray with me
Lord I dedicate myself to You now in Jesus Name, I allow You to have your way in me,be Lord of my life today.
Fill this tabernacle and rest in me - that I might find rest in You.
Lord - Sovereign Lord be soveriegn in me and abide in this Temple - in Jesus Nmae Amen
So here King Solomon is dedicating the Temple in Psalm 132 and how pious for King David to build a temple for God to dwell in 2 Samuel 7:5 - but now see : Exodus 25:8 - now look at Isaiah 66:1
Indeed how can man build a place for God to dwell in ?
Indeed - a persons best works are like filthy wags before God.....
So why does chose to dwell in human beings ? who are sinful and disobedient...
Why would God chose to be obedient to those who are disobedient !
Compare these two scriptures at different times in history..
2 Chronicles 6:41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
Psalm 132:8 Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.9 Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.
menuchah is the hebrew rest here ....
Although God never rests - He continues to work in His people in all the days of their lives.
He does not take a rest [if he did'nt then we are in trouble as He would no longer be omnipresent nor omniscient ]
Here in Psalm 132 God is being asked to dwell /tabernacle/make His home/"in a dark place" to tabernacle and make His home in us.
That we might be clothed with His salvation..
King David wanted in his pious state [living in a palace] to build a house because he he felt that God should have a better place to live in - rather than an ark/tabernacle/tent/ - King Solomon [his son] was to one to build the dwelling place of God [the shadow]
Now the Temple that solomon built is gone - a shadow...
Now is the time for rebuilding . = a body that God builds and continues to "how pious to believe - that God will dwell in a dark tabernacle - that He never built and only depending on Him being the indweller. [how pious for me to believe that God might dwell in me and make His home in me...... [what can I do to deserve such an eterrnal promise ?]
So now lets allow God to destroy the old Temple and allow Him to rebuilt a new Temple and this is the reason why so many people decide not to take this step - because they do not want to allow God to destroy who they are...
I want to share a word with you now - which was given to me [now today]
Don't dwell in the town,
place yourself in my rest.
I cover you with my feathers,
and you will fly from my nest.
Listen to me and don't despair
Come into my sanctuary
and not your groundly affairs.
I uphold and I resolve.
My love makes you tender
and my love makes you bold.
I give you fish(life and pertaining to life)
and not a bone.(death and pertaining to death)
If you make my sanctuary your place of rest
and your garden ,
and your home.
Dont worry about your cares, burdens and your strife
For I give you eternity,
and an abundant life,
and the very best,
And all the rest.
From me at my request,
on my test.
Silly birds circularing around ( all directions)
upwards downwards , light and profound.
East and west, put to the test,( the sign of the cross)
Backwards forwards , come to me to rest.( God rocking you like a baby)
Rest in me, rest in me
in my sanctuary.
Rest in me ,rest in me,
for I'm more peaceful than the hammock in the trees,
And more creative than the birds and the bees.
Is that you Lord talking with me, or is that just me.
If its me I'm just silly see,
but will be resting in the Lord with glee.
